Acne Treatment in Springfield, MO

Acne is an incredibly frustrating affliction that affects many people, regardless of age. DermaHealth wants to help by providing a wide range of treatment options to get you on the road to healthy skin. Beautiful skin doesn’t happen overnight; it involves the utmost care coupled with the proper treatments, products, and a daily skincare routine.

Acne Myths

Although some individuals with acne notice an improvement with sun exposure, this is not a healthy approach to controlling acne. First, long-term sun exposure greatly increases the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Second, although the skin dries up initially after sun exposure, a rebound can occur when the skin’s oil production increases. Sunbathing may therefore exacerbate acne in the long run.

Many people believe products that dry the skin are a proper and effective way to treat acne. This, too, is incorrect. The skin is very sensitive, and anything that decreases hydration will inadvertently increase the amount of oil produced, thus causing more breakouts. It is important to incorporate a moisturizer specific to your skin type into your daily skincare routine.

MEN

Men often struggle with rashes and bumps caused by shaving. Razor bumps are small, irritated areas that develop after shaving, when strands of hair curl and grow into the skin. Razor bumps cause irritation and the development of pimples. They also may cause scarring. DermaHealth offers several treatment options, including laser hair reduction, chemical peels, and medical-grade skincare products to fit a variety of needs and concerns.

WOMEN

Q: What causes recurring acne for women in their 20s to 50s?

A: Fluctuating hormones. Acne is typically associated with the hormonal swings of puberty, but any time hormones fluctuate, acne can flare. Many women are familiar with the once-a-month acne breakout. Hormonal swings also occur during pregnancy and menopause, which can cause a breakout.

Stress is also a culprit when it comes to acne. In response to stress, the body produces hormones that stimulate the oil glands and hair follicles in the skin. When over-stimulated, such as during times of stress, acne can flare.

Active Acne Treatments

Clarisonic

The Clarisonic cleansing device employs a soft, gentle brush that oscillates back and forth more than 300 times per second. This effective cleansing technique allows products to better absorb into the skin, leaving the skin softer, smoother, and more radiant. Oily areas and dry patches are reduced, and pores appear smaller. At DermaHealth in Springfield, we encourage all of our clients to be kind to their skin and use a Clarisonic every day. You will see a noticeable difference, and your skin will thank you.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliation that removes the top layer of skin, leaving it supple, smooth, and vibrant. This treatment also promotes the growth of healthy new skin. Microdermabrasion helps treat acne by removing excess oils, bacteria, and blackheads from the skin.

BLU-U® Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Take control of your acne without drugs or antibiotics. BLU-U PDT blue light treatments kill the acne bacteria by increasing oxygen in the skin. Treatments are quick and effective – simply sit with the afflicted area close to the light for a short period of time. As a result, you will seize control of your acne, clearing and reducing breakouts for a long period of time. There is zero downtime post-treatment. BLU-U was cleared by the FDA in 2003 for the treatment of moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris. The treatments typically comprise one 17-minute session, twice a week for two to four weeks.

DermaSweep

The DermaSweep MD system is a type of microdermabrasion that gently vacuums away the top layer of dead, dry skin and cleans your pores. This treatment is ideal for rosacea clients or older individuals with thinning skin. DermaSweep stimulates blood flow, thus encouraging collagen growth that firms and tones the skin.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can range from mild to deep treatments. They chemically exfoliate the outer layer of skin, giving the skin a healthy, fresh glow. Peeling (if any) is dependent upon the type and depth of the peel and your individual skin.

SRA

SRA is a laser treatment suitable for a variety of issues, including sun-damaged skin, discoloration, rosacea, melasma, capillaries, pigmented lesions, and tough-to-treat acne. These treatments are non-invasive and nonsurgical. SRA is a safe, effective approach to treating acne and is suitable for all skin types.

Isōlaz

Isōlaz is a laser treatment focusing on the elimination of acne and the reduction of large pores. It is a painless, chemical- and medication-free treatment. Isōlaz works by creating a light vacuum on the skin, which gently lifts and loosens dirt, dead cells, excess oil, and impurities. It then emits a painless broadband light that destroys acne-causing bacteria, leaving the skin clean and rejuvenated. Studies show that 85% of clients experience clearer skin. Skin types IV-VI require a test pulse 72 hours before the first treatment.

Acne Scar Treatments

Acne scars can be confidence stealers. Everyone has suffered from acne at some point in their life, but the lasting scars can be difficult to live with. At DermaHealth, we offer several different treatments to soften or erase acne scars.

Microneedling

Microneedling with an Eclipse MicroPen™ is a treatment that creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which aids in the production of collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker epidermis and a softer appearance of wrinkles. Microneedling also creates micro-channels, which allow topical gels, creams, and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing the effects in the deeper layers of the skin.

Sublative Rejuvenation™

Sublative Rejuvenation is a wonderful solution for treating problem acne scars by stimulating collagen production. This approach typically requires up to three treatments approximately four weeks apart, with little social downtime. Individuals who undergo Sublative Rejuvenation treatment may notice slightly red or rough skin post-treatment. This treatment is safe and suitable for all skin types.

Fractora™

Fractora is a fractional rejuvenation and resurfacing treatment that uses a matrix of micro-pins to resurface the skin and remodel deep collagen, reducing the appearance of scarring. Fractora treatment is suitable for all skin types and involves a minimal three to five days of social downtime.

CO2RE™

CO2RE treatment improves the appearance of skin issues, including sunspots, age spots, fine lines, discoloration, rough texture, and other imperfections. This treatment effectively resurfaces the skin as needed. There is some downtime following this procedure, so clients undergoing CO2RE should allow two to five days to recover. Usually, only one treatment is needed. CO2RE is not recommended for skin types IV-VI.
