Hollowness in the face naturally occurs as we age. Volume loss – a decrease in structure, production, or density of fat, muscles, bone, and collagen – is one of the most common contributing factors. Physical characteristics include bags under the eyes, sagging jowls and skin, and an overall decrease in the smoothness of the skin. Without the support of underlying structures in the face, the skin begins to sag and wrinkles become more noticeable, appearing deeper.

The fastest way to replace lost volume is with a dermal filler, which produces instant results. DermaHealth offers a variety of dermal fillers, and our professionals will help you determine which filler is best for you. Depending on the filler and the treatment area, results last between 5 and 24 months. Fillers can help fill out the hollowness in your face and soften wrinkles. Our dermal fillers will smooth your skin and give you a more youthful appearance.

DermaHealth also offers lasers that can help stimulate the body to rebuild lost volume. The results of our lasers develop gradually but typically last longer than fillers. DermaHealth can discuss the options with you to find the most suitable treatment plan for your needs.

Hollowness in Face Treatment: Dermal Fillers

Traditional fillers are soft liquids or gels that are injected under the skin’s surface. They improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, plump lips, fill out cheek hollows, and repair other facial imperfections. They work by filling the depleted space below the wrinkles, replacing lost fat. Fillers are injected into the dermis or subcutaneous layer of skin, depending on the type of filler and treatment goal.

Collagen stimulators replace the collagen your body naturally loses over time. They are injected into the dermis or subcutaneous layer, filling the spaces where collagen has been lost. Once collagen stimulators take effect, the newly produced collagen provides a structural framework to hold hyaluronic acid and elastin and helps restore the dermis. Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules to the dermis and restores skin moisture. Elastin provides elasticity and helps the skin stretch.

RADIESSE®

Radiesse is a synthetic calcium filler that instantly restores facial volume to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles. This filler is a white-based product and is injected into the deeper tissue to avoid color showing on the skin’s surface. Your nurse injector will work with you to find the best fit for your personal needs.

Radiesse works with your body by stimulating your own natural collagen and shows long-lasting results in many patients. The results can last up to 12 to 15 months. Click here to learn more.

JUVÉDERM®

Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid filler used to treat moderate to severe facial folds on the sides of the nose and mouth – also known as parentheses lines. This is an excellent treatment to re-volumize lips that have flattened and thinned over the years and fill in the small lines around the mouth. Juvéderm’s results will last from 6 to 12 months.

RESTYLANE: LYFT, DEFYNE, REFYNE, & SILK

Restylane Lyft®, Defyne®, Refyne®, and Silk® are FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers that restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. These injectable gels restore the loss of natural fat in the cheeks and midface area, correcting volume loss for a more natural-looking, youthful appearance. Depending on the treatment area, clients will see results lasting anywhere from 6 to 12+ months.

SCULPTRA® AESTHETIC

Sculptra Aesthetic is a poly-L-lactic collagen stimulator that is injected in a seed and liquid base deep under the muscle. It’s made of biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that naturally and gradually absorbs into the deep dermis to help stimulate your skin’s own collagen production. While Sculptra is excellent for most areas of the face, lips and surface wrinkles are not a target for this particular product. Results can last up to two or more years.
